Blog 12/5

Questions

  • How does someone write an effective argumentative essay?
For someone to write an effective essay they have to have a developed intro, claims, and background as well as a conclusion to leave the audience wanting more.
  • Where does someone find the evidence to support the idea?
There are many places someone can find the evidence to support the claim, a couple examples are Magazines, people, websites, books and the source themselves.
  • How can a counterclaim help make my essay a more effective one and an easy one to understand?
It can help make the essay more structured and more effective because if some one includes a refutation it could bring the opposing side to their knees.
  • Is it good to go back and revise your claim if you no longer agree with it?
It is okay to go back and revise the claim given and try to come up with a better one, or if you have changed your mind on the claim after further research and further understanding.

Reflection

I learned many things in this genius hour and I plan to use this knowledge to further strengthen my essays and many other arguments. I learned that many things make a very effective essay, and those things I have learned in English class but now I feel that I have almost perfected my argumentative side. One other thing i learned while doing this research is that many things can make an effective essay for example, a strong thesis, strong body paragraphs and a strong way to bring the opposing side to their knees another thing i learned is that it is okay to revise the claim created to further expand knowledge of argumentative essays.

10/31 Tragic Hero

Reflection

There are a couple things i learned today while i was doing the research. I learned that most tragic heroes' lives end with despair or with death. I also learned that both words Tragic Flaws and Tragic Heroes are connected in some ways because the hero has the tragic flaw and that usually makes the hero a tragic hero. i also learned that some heroes have great motives but their views and situations cloud their judgment. I actually have read some stories with tragic heroes for example Romeo in Romeo and Juliet because they have forbidden love which causes their deaths. In this case Love clouded their judgment.

2. Did anyone ever question his mental stability?

10/31

Reflection

This passage talks about how many people read stories, poems and other pieces of writing but it is difficult for some of those people to take apart Shakespeare's texts. This passage also talks about how now in this time we have the technology and brain power to decode a lot of Shakespeare's writing. For me this is a very interesting passage, because it seems to be very funny how people now in the 21st century cant understand an text from a long time ago. I am not saying I can i am one of those people but i feel now we can further understand what  Shakespeare meant.

What I have Learned

There are many things I have learned During this Unit. I learned how to write an introduction and i learned that we can create one using a Shocker, Anecdote, or a use of a fact. I also learned how to write a conclusion and how it is very important to write a good one because it leaves a final impression of yourself. Another thing I learned was how important it is to understand myself and to learn how to express myself in a piece of writing.

Colleges and Scholarships

Reflection

There are many things that I found out today doing this genius hour, i found that some colleges ask for many things like SAT test scores and ACT test scores. One thing that caught my eyes is that many colleges have engineering programs for example, Electrical, mechanical, nuclear and software.
I also learned that i am not really prepared for the real world, and that i need to get my things in order. One thing that i found during the research is that every school is really expensive and that i either have to have all the money at hand or earn any scholarships.
